Since its inception in 2013, Photo Beijing has become an annual event. This prestigious event has successfully drawn participation from 15000 photographers from nearly 100 countries, reaching an audience of 300 million people. The Photographic Society of Sri Lanka (PSSL) has been associated with the event for many years with submissions made by youth members winning awards, and through participation at opening ceremonies in China.
Within the Beijing photo festival, the Silk Road Youth International Photography Exhibition has gained prominence as a major theme. Submission made by PSSL this year too has been placed in the highest level with two young authors being placed within the top 30 with two more having their work included in the official album.
Ms Nayoma de Silva who is the Treasurer of PSSL represented the local Society and Sri Lanka at the Gala opening in Beijing at the invitation of the organizers, together with PSSL member Mr Sampath Peiris. Awards were handed over to S. P. K. S. Stephan who was invited to attend the opening.

The touring group from Sri Lankan had a wonderful opportunity to learn from world-renowned photographers, explore new culture, and capture breadth taking images. They also had the chance to network with other talented photographers and build relationships that was beneficial for all.
There are many exciting events planned for the rest to the year as well as for 2024 by PSSL together with its Chinese affiliates, and the China Cultural Center in Colombo. If you are a talented photographer who dreams of travelling the world to capture images, then you need to enter this competition in 2024. Information needed for 2024 will be out in mid-year. Furthermore, PSSL is to host another exhibition specially for the youth from China and Sri Lanka and will be calling for images in the coming months.
